For those of you who were unable to attend, I've summarized the major =
actions and information which came out of the August 15 WATPA meeting.

* LWV Web Page and Press Release
We issued a press release on the League of Women Voters web page, which =
was picked up in a couple of stories by the Gannett papers. Gannett =
reporters interviewed Irene Herz -- who was deservedly featured as a =
great community volunteer -- and myself. (I will be continuing our =
other publicity efforts.)

* Volunteer Center of United Way
The Web page and domain of the Volunteer Center -- Westchester's largest =
volunteer group -- is alive and on the Internet. Rob Goldberg thanked =
everyone at the meeting for their assistance in making this happen.

* Brochure
The general WATPA brochure has been distributed throughout the =
Westchester Library System. If you have suggestions for other places to =
distribute this brochure, please write back to me.

* Programs For WATPA
Bill Langham took on the responsibility of being our "Program Chairman". =
He will identify and organize topics and speakers for future WATPA =
meetings. Please submit to him any suggestions you might have.

* Web Classes for the public and non-profit groups
We thought it might be useful for WATPA to offer classes on the World =
Wide Web and how to create your own Web pages. These would be aimed at =
the public and non-profit groups, and fit in quite well with our =
community service role. Although he will have to find a way to fit it =
into his tight schedule, Patrick Colvin thought he could help with these =
classes. When the first class is requested, we will make a firm =
decision about the teacher.

* Expanding our base of Web volunteers
Although we currently are satisfying demand, we would like to have more =
volunteers to help with the PathMaster activities -- not only for new =
Web pages, but to continually upgrade the quality of those which are =
there. Gene Robins and I will begin to reach out to local corporations =
to expand our volunteer list. I will be dealing with the Volunteer =
Center. Gene will look into how we might be able to be listed by the =
varous corporate newsletters around the county.

* Student memberships
We discussed the idea of a less costly student membership as one way of =
expanding our volunteer base. This will be discussed again at our next =
meeting. In the meantime, I would appreciate any comments on the idea.

* FrontPage And PathMaster Administration
Patrick Colvin, our Webmaster, gave an impressive demonstration of =
Microsoft's FrontPage product for managing complex Web sites. We =
decided to make this our standard Web management tool. It will allow us =
to have many people working on different parts of PathMaster while still =
adhering to the same basic standards.

*. WATPA Bylaws
Based upon the discussion at the meeting, I will re-draft the bylaws, =
submitted earlier.

I hope everyone enjoys the rest of the summer.

Thanks very much for all your help,

Norm Jacknis
