There is imaginative work going on all over the world. In particular, I =
received this message recently and thought folks might be interested. =
There might very well be some ideas for future directions for us.

Community Information Network announces major new Web site
improvements!

URL http://www.cin.gov.au is the web site for the Australian Community
Information Network (CIN), a non-profit government supported research
project that has built the largest public access Internet network in
the world in an effort to explore research questions about whether
access to on-line services such as Internet email, WWW and newsgroups
can be shown to improve low income people's living standards.

As a extension of the research project, the CIN Web site has undergone
a major reworking recently. It is now a content rich resource with a
variety of information for the CIN's low income audience and the
community.=20

The CIN site is graphically interesting and focusses on building a
sense of community amongst CIN users, providing income support and
associated information, and maximising the value of the Internet for
CIN users.=20

Features of the CIN also include 17 highly interactive 'Rooms', which
are subject oriented spaces that provide a Compuserve or AOL-like
integrated suite of libraries, Web based chat/discussion areas, and
links to other sites within each Room. Additionally, all of the
graphics are tuned for snappy performance and the HTML is optimised
for all major browser types and for accessibility for people with a
disability.

I invite Australian Web users near and far (and others of course!) to
check us out at http://www.cin.gov.au.
