Hi,

As most of you know, WATPA -- especially Cindy Penchina and Patrick Colvin
-- has been working with the Westchester County Board of Legislators to put
its information on the Web. The Board was very cooperative and gave us
every computer-readable document it controlled. The site went active a
couple of days ago at
http://www.watpa.org/wcbol

Patrick Colvin, Cindy Penchina and I were invited to the well-attended
press conference unveiling this site. It was a lot of fun and one of the
great moments in "WATPA history."

For your information, I have attached a copy of the press release sent out
by the Chairman of the Board of Legislators, George Oros. By the way, this
was only his second press conference since becoming chairman.

Regards,
Norm

OROS UNVEILS WEB SITE

Calling it a giant leap forward in the effort to make County government
more
accessible to the public, Board Chairman George Oros (R-C, Cortlandt Manor)
unveiled the Legislature's Internet Web site today, which will provide the
public with access to thousands of pages of information related to the
County
Legislature.

According to Oros, the web site includes instant access to current
legislative proposals being deliberated in the Legislature, minutes and
agendas of legislative meetings, and access to various County publications.
"In a continuing effort to make the legislative process more accessible,
the
Westchester County Board of Legislators has designed an Internet Web site
that allows anyone to find out what is going on in the County Legislature
through the convenience of a personal computer," said Oros. "All you have
to
do is go to your local library and ask them to connect you to the Internet
or
if you have access to the Internet at home through your computer, you can
log
on right from home."

The Web site was created by the Westchester Alliance for Telecommunications
and Public Access (WATPA) and is hosted by the
Internet server of the Westchester Library System. "Members of WATPA
provided their expertise and countless hours of their time free of charge
as a service to Westchester County," said Oros. "Special thanks to Norm
Jacknis, Cindy Penchina, Patrick Colvin and Mitch Freedman who were truly
instrumental in making this project a reality."

WATPA is a not-for-profit grass-roots organization dedicated to ensuring
that Westchester residents get the maximum benefit from advances in
telecommunications including the Internet.

Anyone interested in visiting the web site can find it on the Internet at
http://www.watpa.org/wcbol.
