Changing the Dial-Up Phone Number

This page lists the procedure to change the phone number that your computer uses to dial WestNet. If you have further questions, please contact the WestNet Staff.

• Open the Netscape Dial-Up Edition folder
• Click on WestNet Internet Services Dialer
• Click on the Properties button
• Under the "Locations" tab, change the phone number
• Click OK

1. Change the phone number
   • Go to MY COMPUTER -> DIAL-UP NETWORKING
   • If you get "Welcome to Dial-Up Networking..." screen, click CANCEL
   • With your right mouse button, click on the WestNet Internet Services icon
   • Choose PROPERTIES
   • Change the phone number
   • Click Server Types

2. Check your server type settings
   • 2 things should be checked off (uncheck everything else):

     Enable Software Compression
     TCP/IP
     

   • Click TCP/IP Settings
   • The following radio buttons should be "on":

     Server assigned IP address
     Server assigned name server addresses
     

   • Click OK and close Dial-Up Networking

3. Check your configuration settings
   • In MY COMPUTER, click on CONTROL PANEL -> NETWORK
   • Click on Dial-Up Adapter and click Properties
   • Under the Bindings tab, make sure that TCP/IP is the only protocol checked
   • Click OK, and close Network

4. Please note: Sometimes when the Dial-Up Networking settings are changed, the script that was un-installed in February '98 is re-installed automatically by Windows. If you can not connect after following Steps 1-3, please check to see if the script is disabled.

Windows NT 4.0

• Go to MY COMPUTER -> DIAL-UP NETWORKING
• Choose WestNet and click "Edit Entry"
• Change the phone number
• Click OK

• If you are using FreePPP:
  • Drop down the "Apple", and choose Control Panels
  • Click FreePPP
  • Click the Accounts tab
  • Click on the "WestNet" account, and click Edit
  • Change the phone number
  • Click OK and close FreePPP

• If you are using MacPPP:
  • Drop down the "Apple", and choose Control Panels
  • Click Config PPP
  • Choose "WestNet" and click Config
  • Change the phone number
  • Click OK and close Config PPP

• If you are using Open Transport:
  • Change the phone number in the dialer
  • Connect to WestNet and the phone number will be saved
