usb printer/scanner trouble?
- Have you sat down to do some printing and found that your Windows
2k/xp usb printer will not print? In the printer's property sheet, you
find documents are queuing and the "use printer offline" function is now
checked... And the problem isn't paper jam, or paper out, or cable
out...
- If you have multiple USB devices...such as a second
printer, or a USB hard disk, or a scanner... make sure that each and every
one of the USB devices is turned on and correctly cabled and connected. I
was tipped to these technique when my laser printer wouldn't print unless
my color inkjet printer was also turned on.
- When the
computer can't find my usb-interfaced Epson 1250 scanner...or the usb
interfaced Konica-Minolta PS5000 on another system...I've found that
logging in as machine supervisor, or upping the user's rights to machine
supervisor, will sometimes eliminate the problem.
- Cycling
the power is another fix which also seems to work on the Konica-Minolta
scanner.
- No explanation is
offered for these troubleshooting suggestions, only the observation that,
in my experience, these techniques have resulted in printing, when the
printer wouldn't prevously work, and scanning, when the system wouldn't
find the scanner. I will be delighted when I find a rigorous
expanation of what is going on...and will report it here
