MIDDLEBURY TO DEDICATE NEW ARTIFICIAL SURFACE AS KOHN FIELD

MIDDLEBURY, Vt. - Middlebury College will dedicate its new artificial surface following this Saturday’s men’s lacrosse game vs. Trinity at 1:00 p.m. The field will be named “Peter Kohn Field”, in honor of the College’s long-time friend Peter Kohn. The ceremony will take place at approximately 4:00 p.m., following the game at Youngman Field/Alumni Stadium.

Kohn has been a friend of Middlebury College since he arrived on campus in 1980. He worked in the equipment room from 1981-1988, while serving as a manager of the men’s lacrosse team. He has continued his duties with the men’s lacrosse team and returns to campus each spring to work with the team. Kohn is well known throughout the lacrosse world, having served as manager of the U.S. National Team several times at the World Games. When time permits, Kohn also enjoys helping out with other spring teams at Middlebury as well as some of the other teams during his brief visits in the fall and winter. Kohn holds a special place in the hearts of all Middlebury College supporters.

The 240' X 360' all-weather surface affords teams use of an outdoor facility during severe inclement weather and during the early spring when the ground may be snow covered. This spring, two men’s and two women’s lacrosse games were played on the turf due to the weather. The surface will also be the new home of the field hockey team at Middlebury. The surface will be used by several Middlebury teams, as well as for intramural activities.

The surface is fully lined for men’s and women’s lacrosse, along with field hockey, football and soccer lines. The Astroturf XL system is the newest, most advanced synthetic turf, chosen more often than all its competitors combined. The surface has been used in such facilities as the Tropicana Dome in Florida, the RCA Dome in Indianapolis, and Giants Stadium in New Jersey. Colleges such as Rice, WPI, Springfield, and UMass have also installed the surface.
