Middlebury defeated St. Lawrence 19-2 yesterday.  You may have read this

fall that St. Lawrence had to kick a number of upperclassmen off their team

due to some hazing.  They were not the team they expected to be, needless to

say.

It was never a game, as we rode them hard early, picking up some easy goals

with the attack. The big pre-game emphasis was on playing against our own

standards and not worrying about St. Lawrence's level, and we played that

way, jumping out to a 9-1 first quarter lead.  The usual cast of characters

led the way for us in the first half, with the first 4 attackmen and our

first midfield line all getting goals.  Dave Seeley led the way with 3 goals

and 2 assists.  Holt Hopkins, Greg Carroll, Matt Dunn and Andrew Gault each

netted 2, while Curt Goldman had a goal and 3 assists.

The tough thing for St. Lawrence was that our subs would have beaten them

soundly, so when we subbed we didn't drop off.  Our depth is very strong and

the subs played very well when they went in.  The game ball went to Junior

Scott Goldman.  He is playing for us for the first time this year.  He broke

his leg his senior year in high school at Lawrenceville, and after hockey

ended his freshman year here, he did not feel ready to try lacrosse.  Same

feeling his sophomore year, but this year he wanted to give it a shot.  He

was a short stick middie until a week ago when we threw a long stick at him.

He won the game ball on tenacity and hustle.

A Couple Notes About the Weekend:

The Middlebury vs. Trinity game is in the stadium.  Some folks have asked

why we would not play the game on the turf since we are dedicating it this

weekend.  The turf was dedicated as a practice and back-up game facility.

It has served us extremely well this year, but it is not our primary game

field.

Game time is 1:00.  Post-game reception and dedication in the tent near the

turf field.  The dinner is probably going to be in the basketball gym due to

the high number of people attending.  If not, it would be in the lobby to

Kenyon Arena.  The dress is casual.  Our players will be shirt and tie, you

can dress comfortably and use your discretion.  A shirt and tie is not

required but would not be out of place.

The alumni game is 11:00AM on Sunday.  We will play on the Kohn Field so

bring sneakers.  If you own cleats for grass bring them as well in the event

that the weather makes the Astroturf footing treacherous.  The weather

forecast for the weekend is actually pretty good: Saturday cloudy in the

50's, Sunday partly sunny in the 60's.

If you need equipment for the alumni game meet in our locker room in the new

area of the Field House at around 10:15.  It is on the lower level past the

equipment room.  This is where you can dress and shower even if you do not

need equipment.  Park in front of Fletcher Field House and walk through the

front entrance.  Please try to be at the field by 10:45 at the latest (read,

younger alums get your hungover butts out of bed), so we can check our

numbers, pick teams, and get started at 11:00.

Kelly Cray, our trainer, will be available for taping before the game, and

will be playing in the game with us.

Hopefully I have covered most of your questions.  If not, please email and I

will respond.

I look forward to seeing many of you this weekend.

Best Wishes,

Erin
