5/8

We won today 26-4 in the first round of the NCAA's advancing into the
Quarterfinals which will be held at Middlebury this weekend.  Time and day
TBA tomorrow.
I'm off to dinner, details on today's game and scouting
report on our opponent tomorrow!

5/9

Whittier beat Eastern CT 19-8 last night, so they will be our opponent this
weekend in the Quarterfinals.  I have a conference call at
10:00am to
determine which day and time.

The Quarterfinal match ups are all great ones.  This is one of the reasons I
am a fan of the Automatic Qualifier.  While it leads to a few lopsided first
round games, many more of the first round games were pretty tight.  W&L beat
Widener 13-8,
Washington College beat Cabrini 10-5, Ithaca beat Western New
England
16-15 in OT!, Salisbury State beat Hampden Sydney 15-9, Gettysburg
beat Stevens Tech 16-4.

The Quarterfinal match ups are:
Washington College vs. Washington and Lee
Salisbury State
vs. Gettysburg
Ithaca vs. Cortland
Middlebury vs.
Whittier

All games are too close to call including ours.  Do not be fooled by
Whittier's first appearance in the NCAA's, they are legit.  Their attack is
among the top units in the country (top units include
Washington College,
Gettysburg and Middlebury). The main handler is a 6'5 200lb transfer from
UMBC.  He is joined by a righty Canadien and a lefty Canadien.  They have
all racked up big numbers and are a handful to stop.  They have a couple of
very good midfield lines (mainly Canadiens as well, remember British
Columbia produces many of the top Canadien lacrosse players and Whittier is
the only varsity West Coast program - Aaron Moatz check a map for British
Columbia before you ask any questions).  Their long stick midfielder might
be the best in the country.  In addition to being an excellent take away
defender he has 8 goals and 6 assists on the year.  He is an excellent
offensive middie with his long stick.  Their close D is aggressive and all
have good checks and excellent sticks.  Face offs are strong for them,
particularly because their long stick middie is on the wing wreaking havoc.
They may be a little vulnerable on defense and with their depth.  The bottom
line is that we are in a very strong final 8 right now which is the way you
would think and hope it would be.  For anyone that is anti-AQ for D3 just
point to the 8 teams remaining.

Our game with
New England College was not much of a contest.  They have a
classy coach and they played hard but were obviously outmatched.  We low
keyed our starters after the first quarter and a half, especially Dunn, who
only ended up 1-1.  In a short time Herbert ended up with 5 and Seeley with
4.  Mike Saraceni, our 4th attackmen, played well with 5/2.  Mike Frissora
has returned to the lineup from an injury and looked great in the open field
as usual and ended up with 3 goals.  It was fun to see back up goalie Matt
Levy play well in the entire second half, only giving up only 1 goal and
winning the game ball.
