We played Alumni vs. Freshmen and a handful of sophomores.  Caleb Holmes was stellar on defense, leading many, including this author, to believe he had been doing hours of one on one leading up to the game.  The Alumni entertained and impressed with trick shots and fancy stickwork, almost none of which resulted in any goals.  Holt Hopkins was the one able to break through for the alumni with a combination of "stupid Gait tricks"  and actual goals scored ("stupid Gait tricks" - early 90's Middlebury lacrosse phrase in reference to a belief that watching a Gait brothers video espousing the virtues of behind the head and between the legs shots may have led to the almost-demise vs. Tufts!)  "Uncle" Dave "Dumptruck" Seeley did break out a hard, overhand lefty shot on the run leaving Middlebury lacrosse fans wondering where that was discovered.  Adam Pascal was seen suspiciously laying a big hit on Peter Mellen (Adam is an assistant coach at Williams.)  Matt Dunn reminded the fans of his ability to hypnotize the opponents with his back-in style, reminiscent of "The Hypnotist" Hopkins from '87.  Despite the many ill-fated trick passes and shots attempted the alumni somehow found a way to be tied with their much younger, faster opponents (scorekeeping?)  The Alumni showed the experience that can only be gained through years of Middlebury lacrosse, a luxury not available to the young Panther cubs on the other sideline.  The alumni, of course, called on Peter Kohn to take the OT face off. With quickness, dexterity and tenacity belying his years, but betraying his commitment to Middlebury lacrosse principles, Peter won the OT face off against the previous day's game ball winner, Peter Mellen.  Kohn's speed and moves left many Panthers, opponents and teammates alike, lying in his wake.  In a bitter irony, almost too much for either party to handle, Kohn was facing down his new-found "keeper" (of the Kohn that is, not "goal") Alex Palmisano.  Kohn instantly overcame the emotion of the moment, recognizing his responsi!  bility t o the legions of alumni counting on this goal.  Peter shot and scored, despite Palmisano's outstanding effort with an attempted kick save off his thigh, almost sending the ball wide and the game into a 2nd OT!  It was a good time had by all and ended just as many games before with Peter Kohn as the game's hero!  Thanks to all who attended for a great weekend.
