A few more details on the Amherst game. I mentioned in my brief notes to you
earlier that Seeley had 6 goals, he actually had 7 goals and 1 assist.
Amherst made the decision to play tight off ball defense and to not slide
and it did not pay off for them.  Seeley was too much to handle for his
defenseman alone.  Greg Carroll had 3 goals and Zach Herbert had numerous
excellent opportunities but did not have a great day finishing, so he only
ended up with 1 (1 was also called off for being in the crease).  The guy
other than Seeley who stood out was Mike Frissora (game ball winner).  He
missed Tuesday's game vs.
Union with a stomach bug but did not show any
signs of being sick Saturday.  He was dominant on the wings for face offs,
scored the first two goals of the game for us (ended with 3), played great
on-ball defense and was  a force on loose balls and between the lines all
day.  On a patented Frissora play, he stripped the middie at our defensive
restraining line, picked up the loose ball while the middie was still
attempting to figure out where the ball was, and ran the length of the field
for a beautiful shot to the corner for his 3rd goal.  We have been without
Greg Bastis since early in the Wesleyan game, they are an awfully tough
defensive midfield duo when they're both healthy.  Dave Leach, another
d-middie who won the game ball against
Union, was also out with an injury,
so freshman Mike Murray played a lot with Frissora and was outstanding as
well.  Senior Midfielder Peter Albro returned from injury for his first
action of the season and gave us glimpses of things to come when he gets the
cobwebs out.  He has a quick first step and an extremely quick release on
his shot, making him one of our top scoring threats from the midfield.  Our
offensive midfield group will consist of Dunn, Albro, Fertig, Christopher
Davis and Jamie Duke.  Frissora and Bastis are the hybrid middies when they
are healthy, playing d-middie but getting some offensive runs.

The defense was excellent as well on Saturday, holding
Amherst to 4 goals
with our starting group, with not many good possessions by
Amherst.  The
starting close D of Sebby Astrada, Nick Lesher and Caleb Holmes were all
superb.  Lesher gets matched up on the quick, ball handling attackmen.
Holmes is understated but incredibly reliable (remember he shut out Milliman
at
Gettysburg) and Sebby is most notable for the vacuum cleaner he carries
in his hands when the ball is on the ground.  I am going to start checking
the depth of his pocket, I cannot believe he keeps the ball in there as well
as he does.  For those of you who played from '96-'99, Sebby reminds me a
lot of Michael Van Lokeren.  Our Long Stick Midfield position has looked
very strong with Frosh Will Rawson playing outstanding lacrosse in all
facets: on-ball containment, conservative take aways, team defense, and
ground balls.  Frosh Brian Phinney is looking like he is ready to get
substantial playing time after easing in slowly after a great hockey season.
He is a stud athlete, competitive, strong and talented.  He reminds me a lot
of Scott Goldman from last year, also a hockey playing-long stick middie.
It is no coincidence that I gave him #41, Scott's # (maybe a little bit over
the top, but I got carried away!)

Brian McGregor was as outstanding on face offs as he has been consistently.
He won 19-25.  As I mentioned earlier, he got great support from Mike
Frissora and Mike Murray on the wings.

We play Tufts Wednesday at home.  We are hoping to get in the stadium for
the first time.  They have had a very solid season.  Their big win to date
was 10-8 over Bowdoin last Wednesday.  They play very smart and disciplined,
they are athletic at midfield and they have a strong goalie. Our first half
versus them last year was very close, we had to pull away late for a 14-8
victory.  They may face the same obstacle we did last year making a same
day, mid-week trip from
Boston to Vermont for an afternoon game.

PLEASE RSVP BY EMAIL IF YOU PLAN TO ATTEND THE ALUMNI WEEKEND!!!
