We were humbled by a great Springfield effort and a very sub par Middlebury
effort on Saturday.  We knew they would be the best team on our schedule and
honestly they were as good, but no better than I had imagined.  We just
played poorly across the board.  The tale in the first half is that we had
plenty of possessions but did not capitalize.  This was due to a number of
factors, a couple poor shots, a couple poor turnovers, a couple nice saves.
We went up 3-0 early, but they came right back. Our defense and goalie did
not play well in the first half, but we at least had some possessions and we
were only down 7-5 at the half.  We should have taken advantage of all of
our offensive opportunities in the first half, because we did not have many
in the 3rd Quarter.

Springfield scored 11 goals in the 3rd Quarter and we simply did not have
the ball.  They controlled face offs, we could not clear the ball, they
possessed the ball nicely on offense , we had too many penalties, and they
scored on most of their possessions.  I thought I had seen the worst we
could play in the 4th Quarter of the Washington College game, but I was
proven wrong in the 3rd Quarter!

So, as I said we were humbled.  Maybe we were ready for this beating , it is
hard to say.  We hope that the boys will be able to address the specific
problems that occured, but more importantly bounce back with confidence,
poise and a fire in the belly.  We will only have one practice on Monday
before we play again on Tuesday, so not a lot of time for adjustments, just
enough time to practice some fundamentals and address the intangibles.

We play Union Tuesday at Union.  I hear they are improved, but not much of a
scout yet.
