We concluded a successful spring trip with a 10-3 victory today at Connecticut College.  I saw that the word was out on the listserv regarding the Gettysburg game.  The guys did a great job in that game of remaining poised when down 4-0 in the first.  The stat that was pointed out, Middlebury man up 3/3 and Gettysburg man up 0/5 was important in the game.  I thought Gettysburg was excellent.  They are big and athletic, matching up well with us.  Both goalies played extremely well, Krieger is definitely looking like one of the top goalies in the country.  Ed Brown and John West were tested at defense against a couple of talented attackmen and did great.  We have only won one other time at Gettysburg, so it was a big win.

Defense and riding were the story on Saturday vs. Conn.  We typically have to battle at Conn at the end of break and this was no exception.  We were not sharp for much of the game, but made up for that with tenacious riding.  We put a heavy emphasis on ground balls and riding and it pays off when we are struggling a little on offense.  We were down a couple of guys going into the game and lost a couple more guys during the game, so our depth paid off. It was warmer than we were used to and we had not been on grass either, a couple of other good reasons to have depth.  The starting attack of Charley Howe, Mike Saraceni and Mark Foster did most of the scoring damage again.  Our middies are creating nice opportunities but not finishing well, so that is the difference in our scoring right now.  If we can get a couple of middies untracked with their shooting we can be much more dangerous.

A great showing of alums at both the Gettysburg and Connecticut College games.  Great to see everyone.  Of course, the most important alumni showing at the Conn game was by Conn coach and 2000 Middlebury alumni, Dave Campbell.  This is Dave's first year at Connecticut College and he is doing a great job.

We are off during the week this week and we need the week off to try to get a little healthier. We play again Saturday at home vs. Wesleyan at 1:00.
