Middlebury 28 - NEC 2

Obviously not much of a game.  I did not expect them to be great, but did
think they would be better than they were.  They have a chance at winning
their league, so they are a potential playoff team.  Our goal was to play as
well and as sharp as we are capable and we did a pretty good job of doing
so.  We moved the ball extremely well on offense (without much resistance)
and the defense kept them from getting many good looks at the cage (without
much of a threat).

The attack looks very strong, as we knew going into the game, scoring as
follows:  Herbert 5/1, Seeley 3/3, Saraceni 3/0, Gault 2/3, Carroll 1/1 and
Charley Howe and Brad Myers chipped in with some points as well.  Herbert,
Seeley, Saraceni and Carroll are the top 4 but the other guys played
extremely well also.  We spent much of the 4th quarter passing the ball
around trying to avoid feeding the ball to the wide open people inside to
keep from scoring more goals.

The midfield was marked primarily by balance with a few exceptions.
Sophomore Greg Bastis looks as if he's playing in a different gear than
everyone else and looks as if he will be as good as expected.  Freshman
Jamie Duke did not disappoint in his first outing, ripping a top shelf shot
after winning the face off and bringing it out to himself for a solo fast
break.  Freshman Mike Murray looked very strong as a d-middie.  He will
provide speed, strength and the ability to produce offense from the
defensive end of the field.

We will be tested next Tuesday vs.
Springfield at Springfield at 7:00pm.
They lost handily, 11-5, to a very strong
Cortland State team yesterday, but
I think they will provide very stiff competition.
Cortland beat them last
year as well and then
Springfield hammered us!

FYI, if you did not see.  Middlebury hockey won easily in the Quarterfinals
this weekend vs. Wentworth and we will host the Final 4 this weekend.  We
play
Norwich Friday at 7:00pm in the Semifinals.
