Since there was some discussion on this site about the role of athletics earlier in the year, I thought it might be nice for you guys to share in some of the great things going on with our program and others in the community.

First, check SI.com (Sports Illustrated.com), look on the main for the the Rick Reilly article entitled, "Masters in Humanity".  It is a Rick Reilly article about the Middlebury College football and basketball freshmen bring Butch Varno to the football and basketball games.  I believe it will appear in this week's SI!

Yesterday, the Student Athletic Advisory Committee organized a "Sportsmanship Day" at local schools. Middlebury College athletes spoke at local schools regarding sportsmanship.  The lacrosse program was well represented and the guys that participated had a great time.

Tomorrow the men's lacrosse program is participating in The Dishwashing Project.  This project is one in which your organization volunteers to replace the full time dishwashing staff for one night.  The dishwashing staff will get a paid night off tomorrow and the men's lacrosse team will cover the 2 dishwashing shifts from 5-7 and 7-9.

In mid-April we will participate along with the women's lacrosse team and the high school boy's and girl's team in a fundraising run to benefit the Vin Fucile Field.  This is a new lacrosse/soccer field in town which will be used by the high school and youth programs.  The Fucile Field will be a great facility with lights, great drainage, etc.  We also were involved in this fundraising run last year.  I believe last year we raised $8,000 and hope to at least match that effort this year.

Just a few things that our lacrosse team is doing.  Other sports teams do just as many or more community service projects.  The hockey and football programs have very organized mentoring programs for example.
