Sorry for the delay of a couple of days on a wrap up from the Skidmore scrimmage.  Before I get into the scrimmage I do want to give you heads up that you will be receiving an email from me shortly that will give some details on this year's Alumni Weekend.  As you know from previous emails, the Alumni Weekend this year will include a viewing of the "Kohnumentary" as well as a dinner with the men and women alumni honoring/celebrating Peter and an Alumni Game on Sunday.

It was a fairly lackluster performance against Skidmore.  It is always difficult to pin down the root causes of these performances but they can probably be divided into things we control and things we don't.  In the category of things we don't control, the weather has kept us in for all but two practices this year, so we are behind in our full field developent.  It showed up mostly in our understanding of a full field, game situation tempo. Our offensive players were taking ill-advised shots, early in possessions, mostly stick side high into the goalie's stick!  In the category of things we control, one of the potential causes of these problems is the lack of experience and guys trying to win jobs or establish themselves, instead of playing smart, team oriented lacrosse. This problem was compounded by spending most of the first quarter in the penalty box.  Needless to say it was a slow start and took us a couple of quarters to adjust.

There were a couple of bright spots.  Krieger continued to play well in (and out of) the goal.  John West played great at D, creating several fast/slow break opportunities and playing with great enthusiasm.  Ed Brown looked excellent at close defense as well after missing the Dartmouth scrimmage. Greg Bastis also played well after having missed the Dartmouth scrimmage, scoring two goals.  The freshmen attackmen looked excellent in the second half of the game.  They benefitted from the middies adjusting after the start of the game by doing a better job moving the ball and shooting.  Two of our top attackmen, Junior Charley Howe and Freshman Jon Sisto, both missed the scrimmage with injuries.  Howe practiced last night and looked great.  He has only been able to practice a couple of times this year before he rolled an ankle badly, but he has looked great when he has played.  Sisto did a little work last night, is somewhat doubtful for the weekend.

Practice last night was great.  I think the Skidmore scrimmage sharpened the focus, as I am sure entering the week before our first game has as well.  We open Saturday vs. New England College, home at 1:00pm.  I have stopped looking more than a day or so in advance to check on weather, so at this point I am hopeful that it cooperates but not certain it will!

I will get back later with Alumni Weekend information and will keep you abreast on any developments in the weather which might impact our game this weekend.
