Things are off to a good start.  The weather was great for the first few
practices, difficult to picture from the lens of days past, but we were
doing mid-season full-field drills in 40+ degree temps zinging the ball
around!  The frosh look excellent, one attackman, 3  middies, 3 excellent
defenseman, an excellent goalie and another defenseman whom we have not yet
seen because he plays hockey.

We scrimmage
Dartmouth this weekend at Dartmouth at 1:00pmDartmouth has
been practicing longer and opens the following weekend, so we will have
different goals.  We are going to play everybody and will not have practiced
several aspects of the game, they will play to win.  So, it will be a
perfect early test and a good way to gauge where we are with some of our
younger guys.  Two of our best middies, Matt Dunn and Grayson Fertig are
still playing hockey.  We suffered a tough injury with senior midfielder
Peter Albro, who was playing exceptionally well, has a leg injury and may be
out for a long time.  Senior attackman, Greg Carroll, has also been out with
an injury, we do not yet know if it is long term or not.  Two sophomore
middies have not practiced yet due to injuries, so we will be playing a
little short handed.  We are hopeful for some of these injuries to heal
quickly.

We had the dinner this past Saturday to honor the 2001 championship team and
hand out the rings.  It was a great affair, tremendous turn out by parents.
In addition to parents, players and coaching staff, also in attendance were
President McCardell and his wife Bonnie, Vice President/Provost (and acting
President for the spring while President McCardell takes a sabbatical) Ron
Liebowitz, Director of Athletics Russ Reilly, and Hugh Marlow.  A player
from each class (Eric Krieger, Brian Gault, Peter Albro, and John Rice) gave
a speech talking about the season from the perspective of his class and they
all did a great job.  If you have heard President McCardell speak it will
come of no surprise to know that he did a great job as always.

Finally, in a non-lacrosse matter, if anyone is involved in the
telecommunications or cable industries and would not mind answering a few
questions about the industries for a friend of mine, please email me at
quinn@middlebury.edu and let me know.

Thanks, I'll try to let you know how we do in the Dartmouth Scrimmage.

Best,
Erin
