Now that I’m back in the office I wanted to post an update on this weekend as well as some of my own thoughts from the W&L game.  Hopefully I won’t be stepping on any toes as those were outstanding updates this year coming from Zec and Rob, far better than Gio’s from the last few years.....

As far as this weekend goes, we’re expecting some snow over the next few days that may push our game back to Sunday depending on how bad things get tomorrow.  As of this afternoon we’re still on for Saturday at 1pm against Colby and it looks like we’ll definitely be on Kohn.  We plan to talk things over again tomorrow in case we want to push the game back to Sunday.  I’ll be sure to send an update if anything changes.  Regardless of when the game is played we’ll have the reception on Saturday night from 6-8pm in Kenyon lounge.  Unfortunately we’re not going to be able to have an alumni game this year as we weren’t able to get a big enough turnout for it.  I know Coach Grube is already working on plans for next year though.

Now for the W&L game, thanks to all of you who were able to come out and support the team.  What a great atmosphere for a college lacrosse game!  The story of the game on our end was the play of both Peter Jennings and Brian Foster facing off as well as our defense holding the Generals scoreless for the entire 2nd half.   Jenno finished 6 for 8 at the x and came up with a huge goal for us in the first quarter.    Our defense led by Ryan Deane in net as well as Johnny Duvnjak (Manhasset, NY) and Henry Clark (Kent Denver, CO) played hard and only surrendered 5 goals to the Generals with only one coming after the first quarter.   We awarded Johnny the game ball for the energy he brought throughout the game on a night where we were looking for someone to provide a spark for the team.

We knew coming in that W&L was a good defensive team but didn’t plan on only scoring 6 goals!  Give credit to their guys for contesting many of our shots during our wind up and also to their goalie for making some nice saves.  Going forward we know we have some work to do in order to be a more dangerous offensive team but I continue to believe we have the personnel to get there.

Now it’s time to get ready for the Mules, with a new head coach and the best face off guy in the league (and arguably in the nation) we have some work to do before Saturday.  We did have a great practice today as we opened up our MGL (Mini Game League) season and the report from the Commissioner (Bobby Ritter) is that we’re off to a great start.  See you this weekend!
