Tough subject line to type out this AM after a disappointing loss up in Canton on Monday night.  St. Lawrence was the better team on Monday but we almost managed to steal one from them after a furious comeback in the 4th quarter.

The game was back and forth most of the way with the game tied at 6 in the 3rd. From there St. Lawrence went on a 3 goal run to take a 9-6 lead early in the 4th and it could have been worse had Will Perry not come up with some dynamite saves in the 2nd half. During the run by St. Lawrence we turned the ball over in every conceivable way and lost our focus, something we will need to improve on going forward.

With just under 12 minutes to play, we finally got one off our ride after AJ Kucinski picked off a pass in our offensive end and put it in the back of the empty net.   AJ assisted our next goal right off the face off and made an outstanding spot feed to Henry Riehl on the back pipe.  From there we rode them again (one of 6 successful rides in the 4th quarter) and Harry Giarrusso tied us up at 9.  Jack Gould put us up 10-9 with just under 8 minutes to play in the game.

From there St. Lawrence scored the last two goals of the game and while we had a few possessions, we weren’t able to create enough good looks at the cage to get one to go.

Overall it was an extremely poor performance by our offense in terms of our decision making, our poise, our execution, and in our demeanor.   We must improve at that end of the field as we look ahead to Wesleyan this weekend. We look forward to the opportunity to go against another very good opponent.

At the end of the day, we lost by a goal to the #5 team in the country, on the road, on a day where we frankly didn’t play very well (obviously St. Lawrence had a lot to do with that).  I still believe our team has an extremely high ceiling IF we can put it all together. Stay tuned.
