We were in action again on Sunday night against St. Lawrence and got exactly what we needed right now, a wake-up call.   For the first three quarters with mainly our upper classmen in the scrimmage, St. Lawrence took it to us.  The biggest issue for us early on was clearing the ball, we were 6 for 16 through those first 3 quarters leading to many more possessions for the Larries and to compound things we had some very short possessions on our offensive end.    The good news is that both of our healthy goalies, Charles Ward and Ryan Deane, played very well. They held St. Lawrence to only 7 goals through those first 3.  It could have been much worse.

As both teams started to mix in some younger guys things changed pretty quickly.  We gave up only two goals the rest of the way while we would score 5 goals in both the 4th and 5th quarters.  One player who stood out in this group was Stew Kerr (Lake Forrest, IL).  Stew has made a quick impression on the coaching staff and on his teammates so far this season.  He has already worked his way into our starting man-up group as a freshman and finished the scrimmage with 5 goals.  One that's worth mentioning came on a shot that I don't think I've ever seen before.  Stew slipped while attempting a roll dodge and was headed to the ground.  As he was hitting the turf with his right hip and right hand towards the ground he ripped a righty shot in the upper corner.   I still don't know how he got anything on the shot and how he actually got it off but it speaks to his physical strength and knack for putting the ball in the back of the net.

We were able to get back out on a full field for practice yesterday for the first time in a week and as you can imagine we spent some time on our clearing game.  We had a great practice and I'm excited to see how the guys respond the rest of this week. We'll have our last scrimmages this weekend against St. Mike's and Hamilton at home on Saturday.  Hopefully the weather holds up!
