Mercedes Benz W124 Turbo Diesel Exhaust
1986-1987, OM603 Motor

The front pipe and center muffler for these cars are NLA in the US, in case you didn't know. Find the parts where you can, or purchase a custom stainless system from Timevalve. If you manage to find individual components, it's important to know that there were two incompatible exhaust systems made for this car. Originally, Mercedes built the car with a trap converter located above the exhaust manifold. After this arangement was found to cause head failures, the cars were recalled and the trap converter was replaced with a plain pipe. At the same time, the front pipe and center muffler were replaced, and a catalytic converter incorporated into the exhaust system. The cat exhaust system was only available from Mercedes. The two leading aftermarket systems (ANSA and Bosal) were non-cat systems. If you use one of these brands, you must replace both the front pipe and center muffler section together, as the individual parts are not interchangable.

Mercedes originally installed a trap oxidizer above the exhaust manifold. The original exhaust was straight-through, like the Bosal.
After the recall, the trap oxidizer was replace with this insulated pipe. The exhaust system was also replaced, and included a trap catalyst.
Mercedes front pipe includes cat. Bosal front pipe is shorter.
Mercedes center vs. Bosal. The Bosal inlet pipe is longer.
The flanges are deliberately incompatible. Mercedes left, Bosal right
Possible solution for incompatible flanges? A 3 inch V-clamp.But you'd still have to make up the length difference.
