Another family I am researching is that of Jakob
Martin
Olsen (1871-1913) and Augusta Jakobsen (1874-1925). They both arrived
in
Brooklyn, New York from Aust Agder, Norway in the 1880s. I plan to add
more information on their ancestry to this page soon.
I am also researching the families of several 19th
century German immigrants to Toledo, Ohio. These include Julius Paul
Behrendt,
1864-1935, from West Prussia; Elisabeth Behrens, 1828-1903, from
Mecklenburg-Schwerin;
Hulda Heiden 1872-1953, from Damsdorf, Pommerania; Friedrich
Köhne,
1830-1895, from Mecklenburg-Schwerin; Paulina Krüger, 1863-1945,
from
West Prussia; Martin Johan Reekwald 1866-1949, from Klawsdorf, East
Prussia;

Shalstone, Buckinghamshire, England
My Strange family lived in Shalstone in
northwest
Buckinghamshire in the 18th century. I have created a webpage
with information on Shalstone genealogy, including gravestones in
the
parish churchyard.
Lucas County, Ohio
Because of my interest in genealogy in that area, from 1997-2001 I
served
as the County Coordinator for Lucas County, Ohio for the USGenweb
Project. The current County Coordinator is Bonnie
Walsh, who now maintains the Lucas
County Genweb Page.
Mecklenburg, Germany
I serve as the list owner for Mecklenburg-l, a listserv list devoted to
genealogy in Mecklenburg, Germany. To subscribe or unsubscribe from the
list, visit the subscription
page.
Prince George's County, Maryland
I am the Immediate Past President and the Program Chair of the Prince
George's Co., Maryland Geneological Society.
Medieval Genealogy
The ancestors of Marion Elizabeth Strange (see above) include Jane
Deighton (bap. 5 Apr 1609), who migrated from Gloucester, England
to
Boston, Mass. Her maternal grandmother was Elizabeth
Lygon, through whom I descend from much of the nobility of medieval
England, and most of the royal families of medieval Europe. I have more
information on her ancestry than is practical to include here, but if
you
contact me by email, I will be
happy
to share my research.
National Institute on Genealogical Research
I serve as the webmaster for the National
Institute on Genealogical Research (NIGR), one of the leading
genealogical
education programs in the U.S. I also serve as webmaster for the National
Institute on Genealogical Research Alumni Association (NIGRAA).
Other Researchers' Pages:
I have met many distant cousins online who are researching the same
families
as I am. Here are some of their pages:

Family

Family and many other Quaker families
Ken McEvoy has a page on the Knowlton
Family There is also a Knowlton family discussion list. To
subscribe,
send a message to majordomo@benetech.com
containing the text subscribe knowlton
Virginia Peterson has a page on the Tubbs
Family.
Mike Strange has a page with a great deal of information about the Strange
Surname.
Searchable Databases of Records:
Here are some online databases that I have found useful in my research:
The Ohio Historical
Society
has an index of Ohio deaths 1913-37.
The Indiana State library has an Index
of Indiana marriages to 1850. (Caution: I have discovered that the
dates given for some Quaker marriages are in fact the date the couple
was
reported married to the monthly meeting).
The Bureau of Land Management has a searchable
index of land patent records from the General Land Office.
The British Public Record Office has a searchable
database of Prerogative Court of Canterbury wills. You can search
the
database for free, but downloading a will costs £3.50.
If you are interested in any of the families I am researching, please
contact me. In many cases I have a good deal more information than
what is listed here, and I am happy to share that, as well as my
sources,
upon request.
