Experience the warmth and charm of San Jose. Experience
the Don Carlos Hotel. This 36 room hotel is located in
a quiet residential area near the center of downtown San
Jose. The Don Carlos gives you a glimpse into Costa Rica's
rich heritage. All facilities are entirely owned and operated
by the Don Carlos Family |
The Don Carlos Hotel is located in the "oldest" residential
area of the city.(See Map) This area
is slowly being recreated as a refined French Quarter, like
New Orleans. It is directly across the street from the World
renowned "Pre-Columbian Jade Museum". We are proud to state
that a major part of the display came from the Don Carlos
collection. Don Carlos wrote the book for the museum describing
the collection. A short walking tour from the hotel will take
you to the local zoo, the 150 year old liquor factory wich
is now a cultural museum, the Escuela Metalica (the building
that Gustavo Eifel built after his work on the Eifel tower
in Paris, numerous museums etc.

Hotel Don Carlos was founded by Don Carlos Balser, a
world renowned expert on Pre-Columbian art including gold
and jade. Many of the artifacts in Costa Rica's Jade Museum
were originally a part of his private collection. Don
Carlos Balser remained actively involved in the research
and publication of Costa Rica archaeology through out
the years. From your complimentary welcome cocktail in
our Pre-Columbian Garden Lounge to our helpful English
speaking staff - Don Carlos is dedicated to making your
Costa Rican visit a memorable experience.
