The La Escuelita schools - La Escuelita de DOMINICAL on the the beautiful south central Pacific Coast of Costa Rica in the jungle/beach town of Dominical and La Escuelita de BOCAS DEL TORO, the town on the northern Caribbean island Isla Colon in the Bocas del Toro archipelago - offer immersion Spanish programs in beautiful, exotic environments and animals and sea life, with unique and special cultural and environmental experiences.

Both schools are accredited in the U.S and Canada for Graduate Continuing Education Credits. Many undergraduate programs accept Graduate level credits. 48 hours of immersion with Las Escuelitas is normally accredited as 3 credit hours (1 semester).

La Escuelita de Dominical
Jungle/beach/surfing/Boruca Indians

The Dominical school is designed for students who want to learn their Spanish and experience living in a beach town surrounded by beautiful jungle, world class surf, waterfalls and rivers; i.e, students that enjoy ocean and nature.

The school is located right on the beach in a village of 700 people. The atmosphere is tranquil but exciting, with good restaurants and music and dancing on weekends.

Students study 3 or 4 hours per day in the classroom, 2 or so hours of homework, and live at beach cabins run by Spanish speakers or with other students in beach houses. Students receive vouchers for 2 meals a day that they can use at any restaurant, so they can eat when, where and what they want. Prices include classes, materials, room, and food.

THE JUNGLE / OCEAN / INDIGENOUS INDIAN .... ADVENTURE °

• 2 trips the first week into the rain forest at Hacienda Baru;
• second week, snorkeling excursions to Playa Uvita underwater biological preserve, and horseback trip to jungle waterfalls;
• third week, a 4 day excursion to the Boruca Indian Reservation to study the legends and art of one of the 5 tribes in Costa Rica; (weather permitting)
• and the fourth week, a 30-mile ocean trip to the famous Isla del Caño Biological Preserve, the inspiration for Jurassic Park.

Bocas del Toro, Panama

Caribe Island/diving/Guaymi Indians The Bocas del Toro School is designed for students who want to study Spanish in a Caribbean Island/Indian world. It features incredible snorkeling, swimming and diving, island architecture, and islands surrounded by abundant sea life and populated by the Guaymi Indians and Caribes.

The school is located on the island Colon in the town of Boca de Toro (pop. 2500). The food, music, and atmosphere is a combination of both cultures.

The study program is identical to the Dominical school, and the students live with families or with teachers and other students in pensions. Prices include classes, materials, and room. Food will cost approximately $6 U.S per day at local restaurants.

Beside the straight study program, the school offers optional excursions programs:

THE ISLAND ADVENTURE °

• two trips a week by boat to Indian villages ,snorkel sites on islands, jungle river tours, water skiing, kayaking and history
• PADI CERTIFICATION Program (obtain your open water certification, classes and dives included the first 2 weeks, join Island Adventures or take additional dives last 2 weeks.)

Transportation between the islands is by canoe or motorized boat. If you want to fly all the way, you can fly to Panama City or San Jose, and then fly Aero Perlas to Bocas, or fly to San Jose and take a bus and water Taxi.
