I moved to Costa Rica in 1985 from Washington D.C. I spend my time on land/forest management, gardening, and Biesanz Woodworks.
I went to the Blanchet family reunion celebrating the 350 anniversary of Pierre Blanchet's birth in July and learned a bit about my geneology from my 2,400 cousins. Really it was an amazing event and very well organized. I'm curious to know if any of the Blanchets on the web happen to see this page - especially people decended from Ludger Blanchet or Cyprien Blanchet. I'm including a list of my great grandparents with the Blanchet name. (My apologies to people unrelated to me...). There are a number of information gaps in here, maybe someone will fill me in.

There was a man named Jacques Samuel Blanchet, 1807-1875, who named over 50 Brazilian plants after himself. I have a list of them I got from the Missouri Botanical Garden. Includes Crape Jasmine, and Heart of Flame Bromiliad, and a showy yellow Oncidium orchid.
I'm interested in talking to people about orchids, tropical gardening, tropical hardwood nurseries, squirrel monkeys, Quakerism (and many other topics too, but these are the ones that spring to mind.)
