"The Costa Ricans" is the only book length sociological study for this country. It is now being extensively updated. Mavis Biesanz first came to Costa Rica in the 1940's to write "Costa Rican Life". Her son and daughter-in-law, Richard and Karen Biesanz came to the country in 1964, and the three of them joined forces on the first edition of "The Costa Ricans" in 1982.
