REVIEW: Professor Trance & The Energizers - Shaman's Breath (Island)
- Jamie Roberts
All hokey, spiritual mumbo-jumbo aside, this debut release by this shamanic-inspired group does Island Records proud.
World Beat/Dance is how you might categorize this album, but you could just as easily put it in the Enigma, Deep Forest, "in the mood" instrumental music milieu.
The 9 lengthy tracks are percussion rich and very relaxing. They have little, if any at all, lyrics. Song names like "Spirit Catcher" and "Breath Connect Us All" are revealing of the theoretical thread that strings this album together.
One need only read the spiritual explanations for the music in the CD cover to make sense of it all. This is very interesting, and if you believe it - inspiring. This is, however, not at all necessary to the enjoyment of the disc.
Bask in Shaman Breath's melodic power, and derive from it what you'd like. If nothing else, it sure makes a dark, rainy night a whole lot more comfortable!
