WestNet: Configuring usernet under
Linux for Westnet



Please note: Usernet can be used with modem lights in Gnome (GNU Network Object Model Environment) on the control panel. You must login as root to configure usernet..

  • Start a terminal windows and type netcfg to begin the Network Configurator.
  • Under the Names tab: Domain: is westnet.com Nameserver is 206.24.6.2 hit the enter key, 206.24.6.9 hit the enter key.
  • Under the Hosts tab, leave the default IP address at 127.0.0.1.

  • Under the Interfaces tab choose the Add option.
  • On the Network Interface menu choose PPP
  • On the Edit PPP Interface tab under the Hardware tab, select Use hardware flow control and modem lines.
  • Under the Communication tab, do not change the default unless your modem is not responding. (Note: Refer to your modem manual for the strings if the defaults do not work.
  • Under the Networking tab, choose Set default route when making conection (defaultroute). Note: Do not change the other options until after you've made a successful connection.
  • Under the PAP tab, do nothing. It should be filled in from a earlier configuration. Select done and save.
  • At a terminal, type usernet to bring up the dialer. Click on the red button and when it turns green you are connected. Click the green button to turn red and now you're disconnected.
