WestNet: Linux - kppp

Configuring kppp under Linux for Westnet

Please note: Kde (Kool Desktop Environment) doesn't need to be installed to use kppp (Kde Point-to-Point Protocol). Kppp networking has to be installed to use the kppp dialer.

Start kppp by the icon that would have been install under the start up menu or type kppp in a terminal to bring up the dialer.

Choose Setup to begin.

Choose New to setup a new account.

For the Connection name type Westnet

Type the Phone Number you will be using. (Note: Choose a area that is closest to you. Call Bell Atlantic or check your local phone book to verify.)

For Authentication use the pull down menu and select PAP.

Under the IP tab, insure that Dynamic IP Address has a black dot next to it.

Under the DNS tab: Domain Name is type westnet.com DNS IP Address 206.24.6.2 Add the number than 206.24.6.9Add the number.

Under the Gateway tab, insure that Default Gateway has a black dot next to it and Assign the Default Route to this Gateway has a check.

Under the Login Script and Accounting tabs, leave bothe blank. Choose the OK to finish.

On the kppp dialer box next to Connect to, use the pull-down menu and select the new Westnet option.

Type your westnet username in the box next to Login ID. (Note: Your Login ID must be typed in lower case).

Type your westnet password in the box next to Password. (Note: Your Password must be typed in lower case).

Choose connect to connect to westnet.
